Foundation message

Thank You to Our Generous Community: A message from the Board Chair and the CEO of Headwaters Health Care Foundation

What a year!  Fantastic. Amazing. Outstanding. Exceptional. Record-breaking.  Just pick your favourite superlative and it probably applies to the level of community support for Headwaters Health Care Foundation in 2023/24.

The theme for the year was Smart Headwaters, our campaign to bring MRI and more to Headwaters Health Care Centre.  The ambitious $18 million campaign was launched at the home of campaign chair, Joan Waechter on the first day of summer in June 2023, and it quickly became a point of focus for the many members of our community who believe in the importance of investing in MRI and other vital medical technology for their hospital.

The year ending March 31st, 2024 demonstrated the generosity of the Headwaters community in a number of important ways.  Highlights from Foundation Activity in 2023/24 include:
  • Raising a record amount of revenue in excess of $7 million.
  • Funding the purchase of new Bone Densitometry equipment and the most advanced CT Scanner technology in Canada
  • Securing our largest-ever $3 million matching gift from Morningview Foundation
  • Setting new revenue records for both the Gala and the Golf Classic signature events, raising over $1 million net revenue combined
  • Recruiting and working successfully with the Smart Headwaters Campaign Cabinet
  • Holding informative Financial/Estate Planning Seminars for donors at the hospital
  • Welcoming talented new Board and Committee members
  • Launching a new video series to support Smart Headwaters
Looking ahead, through the inspirational leadership of our Foundation Board of Directors, we anticipate our community coming together to help secure the final portion of the $18 million Smart Headwaters campaign goal.

Already, our campaign has funded one of the most advanced CT scan machines Canada, digital health systems throughout the hospital, 3D digital mammography, and more.  At the time of this report, construction is well under way on the new Dialysis Unit that will improve the patient experience for patients who spend hours every week at Headwaters for life-saving dialysis care.  And of course, we eagerly look forward to celebrating the opportunity to perform the first ever MRI scan at Headwaters.  The site work needed to create a home for the new MRI suite is underway and we expect the first MRI scan to be completed at Headwaters in early 2025.

All of this progress and improvement is thanks to the many individuals, families and organizations in our community who have become generous supporters of Smart Headwaters.  Thank you, we couldn’t do it without you!

We acknowledge that our hospital resides within the traditional territory and ancestral lands of the Tionontati, Attawandaron, Haudenosaunee, and Anishinaabe peoples.

We also acknowledge that various municipalities within the County of Dufferin reside within the treaty lands named under the Haldimand Deed of 1784 and two of the Williams Treaties of 1818: Treaty 18: the Nottawasaga Purchase, and Treaty 19: the Ajetance Treaty.

We also acknowledge the land which forms the Town of Caledon is also part of the traditional Territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee Peoples, and the Anishnabek of the Williams Treaties.

This land is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
