Denise's Story

Last month marked Denise’s 21^st Anniversary working with us, starting her career in July 2001 at the Shelburne District Hospital.

When Denise first joined us, it was as a member of the Environmental Services team where she would assist with laundry. She also spent time in housekeeping throughout the hospital and as part of our Nutrition Services team.

In 2008, Denise joined the team at 100 Rolling Hills Drive working full-time in housekeeping. In 2015, she started going to school to become a Registered Practical Nurse, maintaining her full-time job and part-time studies. Denise pursued these studies at Georgian College in Barrie and graduated in 2019. In the fall of 2019, she joined the nursing team on D-Wing.

For Denise, the most memorable moments throughout her career were those spent working alongside her mother, Chantal, who spent 25 years with our hospital as a Registered Nurse. Her mother retired from Headwaters in 2010 after a career devoted to caring for the Dufferin-Caledon community. 

“Through the years working as both a housekeeper and now as a nurse I have had the joy of getting to know my colleagues. They have been warm and generous with their words of encouragement and support. I have had the opportunity to work on every wing at the hospital in different roles and have met some wonderful people along the way,” said Denise.

When sharing her experiences with her colleagues, Denise spoke highly about their dedication and hard work. Denise is proud to work with them, they are her role models and people she is grateful to call friends.

“I remember a time when my former manager, Laura, who I worked with for over 18 years, made it possible for me to continue with my full-time hours while going to school. She was very accommodating, and it meant a great deal to have that kind of support,” recalled Denise.

Thank you, Denise and all your colleagues for all you have done over the years. While your peers are indeed role models, as are you. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of nurses through your passion to dedication to your craft.
