Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapy is a health care field that helps people with disorders related to breathing and lungs.
This includes asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). The respiratory therapy team at HHCC consists of:
- Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs)
- Certified Respiratory Educators (CREs)
- Respiratory Cardio-pulmonary Technologist (RCPT)
- Certified Asthma Educator (CAE)
Our RRTs are part of your health care team and provide testing, treatment and education for lung and breathing conditions. They will see you either when you are in the hospital as an inpatient or as an outpatient in our Ambulatory Care Wing.
The RRTs at Headwaters are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assess and treat patients. They help patients in:
- Adult Intensive Care Unit
- Labor and Delivery Unit
- Emergency Department
- Medical/Surgical/Paediatric ward
- Pulmonary Function Testing
- The Operating Room
- Code Blue/Code Pink Arrest Teams
Pulmonary Function Tests are done if your doctor refers you for this test. It is done to measure how well your lungs are working. You will go to the Ambulatory Care Wing for this test.
