Pharmacy

The HHCC Pharmacy Department provides safe and efficient medication distribution and pharmaceutical care to patients. Our staff work with the other members of your health care team to make sure you receive the right medications at the right dosages when you need them.

Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians each play an important role in the Pharmacy as part of the multi-disciplinary care team. Some of their core responsibilities include:

The pharmacist: 

  • Reviews medication orders before administration
  • Assesses patient to see if they need more comprehensive pharmaceutical care
  • Educates patients and family members about the safe and effective use of their medication while in hospital or after discharge
  • Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, health professionals and patients

The pharmacy technician: 

  • Ensures prescribed drugs are available for patients
  • Processes orders for oral, topical and intravenous medications
  • Is responsible for quality control measures to improve patient safety and efficiency within the drug distribution system
