After graduating high school, Dawn went on to complete an Office Administration Legal Course. She worked in that field for a short time but soon found that it wasn’t her calling. She went back to school for Medical Office Administration.
Her first health care position was with James Paton Memorial Hospital is Gander, Newfoundland, where she worked for two years.
Dawn became part of the HHCC family in 2004 when she moved from Newfoundland to Orangeville. Her husband’s career brought them to Ontario even though both are from Newfoundland and all their family remains there.
For the first few years Dawn worked at HHCC as an Emergency Department Registration Clerk / Switchboard Operator until an opportunity as a Diagnostic Imaging Clerk came up.
“I was made to feel at home the moment that I started to work here,” recalled Dawn.
In 2004, Dawn was trained by her colleagues Tammy and Phyllis who she is happy to continue to work alongside today.
The most impactful moments at HHCC for Dawn have been centered around our patients.
“I remember one couple who I met and got to know more and more with each visit they had to the hospital. Every time they came, even when it was at the end of life, they made sure to come see me and give me a hug. It is just little connections like this that make it all worth it,” said Dawn.
Dawn plans to move back to Newfoundland someday but for now she is happy to call HHCC home.
Thank you, Dawn, for all that you do to support our community.
