Headwaters Health Care Centre is proud to deliver patient-centred quality care through the arrival of Dufferin-Caledon's first MRI, the Morningview Foundation MRI Suite.
Thanks to the generosity of our community and funds raised through Headwaters Health Care Foundation's, Smart Headwaters campaign, you will soon be able to come to Headwaters for MRI scans close to home. Operational funding for MRI has been provided by the Ministry of Health.
The arrival of our region’s first MRI means enhanced access to healthcare for the residents of Dufferin-Caledon. Getting an MRI at Headwaters means you won’t have to travel far for diagnostic services.
When the implementation is complete, your health care provider will be able to make an appointment on your behalf for the following services. Please speak with your health care provider for a referral:
- Breast MRI
- Musculoskeletal MRI
- Neuro (brain and spine) MRI
- Pelvic / Abdominal MRI
- Prostate MRI
All services are currently for patients over the age of 8.

What is an MRI?
MRI is diagnostic imaging equipment that produces detailed images of the internal organs through a strong magnetic field and computer-generated radio waves.
Where will the MRI be located?
The Morningview Foundation MRI Suite will be located within the Ambulatory Care wing. It will extend into the garden path area near the Emergency Department parking bay.
Our new MRI unit includes innovative features:
- Wide bore scanner to accommodate most types of scans and patient needs
- Shorter scan times with an intelligent workflow
- Optimal, sharp image quality with motion-correction techniques
- Patient-friendly exams
- Reduces background noise
- Small, efficient footprint and lower power consumption
How does MRI construction affect the Emergency Department?
There's no change to Emergency Department patient care and parking routines.
At times, there may be temporary construction activity due to movement of equipment.
Where is construction taking place?
Safety fencing will mark the construction zone.
The first phase of construction will be exterior, between the Ambulatory Care northwest side of the building and Friendship Garden walkway and the into Emergency Department round-about parking area.
The second phase of construction will be focused on the pre-fabricated unit, once it is delivered. The MRI unit will then be delivered and installed in the pre-fabricated unit.
What happens if I want to use the Friendship Gardens in the construction zone?
The walkway to the Ambulatory Care Friendship Garden area is closed during construction. Instead, please enjoy the nearby Friendship Garden healing wheel and other gardens surrounding the hospital.
In partnership with the Friendship Gardens, some garden relocation is planned to accommodate the new MRI unit location.
How will Headwaters be ensuring safety during construction activity?
We have processes in place to ensure safety for all, including Joint Health and Safety Committee, Infection Prevention and Control recommendations and stringent safety processes followed by our contracted vendor.
Safety fencing will clearly mark the construction zone.
We've also carefully planned construction to be the least disruptive to patients and other hospital areas.
